Documentaries, short and feature films, and artistic moving-image work that is festival-selected, broadcast or exhibited are. Many skilled videographers have the craft and need to build the authored body of work.
What Counts as Authored Film
The assessment looks for films where you are the credited director or key creative, selected by recognized festivals, broadcast or distributed, or exhibited as artists' moving image. Reviews in film press, awards and nominations, and letters from producers and festival programmers build the case. The shift is from client deliverables to authored work that the film world recognizes.
The Repositioning Path
A working videographer converts by producing authored short documentaries or artistic films, submitting to recognized festivals, and accumulating selections, coverage and recognition over 12 to 24 months. The craft transfers; what has to be built is the festival and critical record.
