Producers make the culture happen. Arts Council England names producers as eligible — here is how to prove artistic leadership behind the scenes.
Behind every festival and cultural event is a producer, and Arts Council England explicitly recognizes producers and artistic directors within its combined arts criteria. If you have programmed and delivered cultural festivals, performance seasons or major events, you are eligible for the Global Talent Visa in your own right — not merely as support to the artists on stage.
Evidencing Producing as Artistic Leadership
The case turns on the scale, prestige and reception of what you produced. Programmes and playbills crediting you as producer or artistic director, press coverage of the events, audience and touring reach, and awards or public funding secured all demonstrate leadership. Letters from artists, venues and festival boards confirming your creative role complete the file.

Producers of established, internationally recognized festivals apply under Exceptional Talent. Emerging producers with first significant programmes and rising recognition use Exceptional Promise, settling after five years rather than three.

Is producing seen as artistic, or just logistics?
Arts Council England distinguishes artistic producing — programming, curating a season, shaping the creative vision of an event — from pure event management. The file must show creative authorship: what you chose to stage and why, not only that the logistics worked.
Do commercial or corporate events count?
Generally not. The route assesses cultural and artistic work. Music festivals, theatre seasons, arts festivals and cultural programmes qualify; conferences, product launches and corporate entertainment do not form the evidence base.
Whose letters should support a producer's application?
Artists you have programmed, venue and festival directors, funders and cultural institutions you have worked with. The letters should speak to your creative decisions and the standing of what you produced, not just your reliability.
