UK Global Talent Visa for Startup Founders

Don't be constrained by the Innovator Founder visa. We help successful tech entrepreneurs secure the Global Talent Visa via Tech Nation for ultimate flexibility.

Global Talent vs Innovator Founder Visa

For established tech founders, the Global Talent visa is vastly superior to the Innovator Founder visa. Why? Because there are no business performance milestones required for settlement. If your startup pivots or fails, your visa is completely unaffected. You can simply join another company or start a new venture.

Tech Nation Criteria for Founders

Tech Nation assesses the commercial impact of your company and your role as a leader.

Exceptional Talent (Established Founders)

  • Key Evidence: Raised significant VC funding, scaled ARR/MRR substantially, featured in major press (Forbes, TechCrunch), successfully exited a previous startup.

Commercial Success Metrics

We format your cap tables, financial statements, and user acquisition metrics into clear, compelling "Impact Reports" that Tech Nation assessors can easily digest.

How the Application Works for Founders

Founders apply through the digital technology route: stage one is endorsement by Tech Nation, stage two is the visa itself. The total application fee is £766 split across the two stages, plus the Immigration Health Surcharge of £1,035 per year. Unlike sponsored work routes there is no job offer requirement, and unlike the Innovator Founder route there is no business plan approval: Tech Nation assesses what you have already built.

Exceptional Talent vs Exceptional Promise

Established founders with significant funding, revenue or an exit apply under Exceptional Talent. Earlier-stage founders at the start of their careers can use Exceptional Promise. The digital technology route is unusual in that both tracks qualify for settlement after three years.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does my company need to be registered in the UK?

No. Tech Nation assesses your personal track record and impact as a founder, and the evidence can come from any market. Incorporating or expanding in the UK is something you do after the visa is granted, on your own timetable, without performance milestones attached to your immigration status.

My startup failed or pivoted. Can I still qualify?

Yes. The assessment looks at what you demonstrably built and led: funding raised, product adoption, team growth, technical innovation, press coverage, previous exits. A wind-down does not erase that record, and the visa itself is never tied to the performance of any one company.

Can I take a job while running my startup on this visa?

Yes. The Global Talent visa has no sponsor, so you can combine employment, contracting, advisory roles and your own venture in any proportion, and change that mix at any time without notifying the Home Office.
