Arts Council England (ACE) holds classical music, orchestra, and opera in the highest regard. If you are a Conductor or Musical Director, you do not need to prove you wrote the music or played the instruments. ACE explicitly states they consider applications from individuals who contribute to the creation and delivery of music, explicitly naming "conductors and musical directors."
The Path for Conductors
As a conductor, your role is interpreted as both a lead performer and an artistic director. Your evidence must prove that you are highly sought after on an international level, either as a principal conductor for a major institution or as an in-demand guest conductor.
Key Evidence for Conductors
- Guest Conducting Contracts: Programs and playbills proving you have been invited to guest conduct orchestras or operas in multiple countries (e.g., conducting the Berlin Philharmonic or La Scala).
- Critical Reviews: Classical music critics often review the conductor specifically. We need reviews from major broadsheets (e.g., The Times, NYT) praising your interpretation, tempo, and control of the orchestra.
- Recording Credits: If the performances you conducted have been released on major classical labels (e.g., Deutsche Grammophon, Decca), this is premier evidence of international distribution.
- Endorsements: Letters from Intendants of major opera houses or legendary soloists who have performed under your baton.
